…Chances for heavy rain and thunderstorms over parts of the Florida Peninsula over the next couple of days…
…Elevated to critical fire weather concerns for the Southeast on Wednesday…
…Chances for severe thunderstorms across Central Plains on Wednesday…
Fairly calm conditions will prevail across much of the CONUS for the next 24 hours as an expansive area of high pressure suppresses our supply of moist and unstable air necessary for widespread heavy rain and severe weather this time of year. As such, much of the wet weather will be found near the tail end of a stationary front over the southeast Florida coast as a disturbance aloft supports slow moving thunderstorms, which could drive isolated to scattered flooding over urbanized areas including Miami through Thursday. Just north of the front, however, the forecast remains on track for localized Critical fire weather conditions to persist this afternoon over south-central Georgia owing to the dry post-frontal airmass in place. Otherwise, a clipper system should trek across the Plains this week and drive scattered thunderstorm coverage (one or two of which could be strong) across portions of Kansas and Nebraska tomorrow. North of the front, cooler thermal profiles will support an occasional wintry mix across portions of the Northern Plains and Upper Midwest as well.
Temperature wise, cooler than average highs and lows will continue across the Northern Plains, Ohio Valley, and the Northeast through midweek. As the high center moves overhead, strong radiational cooling overnight could lead to overnight lows which dip below freezing over portions of the Ohio Valley and Northeast, prompting a handful of Freeze Warnings. Fortunately, temperatures in these areas will begin to recover beyond Thursday, with much of the Lower 48 expected to warm up going into this weekend.
