Former President Trump in Federal Court in Miami for arraignment (ABC News Special Report). YouTube Tips ⓘ
Former President Trump arrived in Miami, Florida on June 12, 2023 — the day before his arraignment Tuesday, June 13, 2023.
Trump revealed he would be represented by Todd Blanche, a former assistant U.S. attorney in the Manhattan federal prosecutor’s office who is also representing Trump in his prosecution by the Manhattan district attorney. Trump attorneys Jim Trusty and John Rowley resigned on the day after the indictment.
Federal Judge Aileen Cannon, who was appointed to the bench by Trump in 2020, was randomly assigned to preside over the case. Cannon previously made unprecedented rulings favorable to Trump in 2022 which temporarily stymied the FBI and special counsel investigations.
Judge Cannon’s rulings were criticized by legal scholars, and a panel of the conservative U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit unanimously overruled them, writing, “We cannot write a rule that allows any subject of a search warrant to block government investigations after the execution of the warrant. Nor can we write a rule that allows only former presidents to do so.”
Supporters of former President Donald Trump were outside the courthouse in Miami where he’ll be arraigned Tuesday. Miami’s police chief says enough resources have been deployed to handle a crowd of up to 50,000, far more than the number of demonstrators who arrived Tuesday.
